Microneedling Overview

Needless to say, quarantine life has impacted the entire world including the way we hang out with our friends and family. Recently, during a “Zoom Happy Hour” with my friends, I began talking about our “Corona- Looks” and of course it naturally progressed into a discussion about beauty and aging as we have all had a lot of time to look in the mirror lately. One of my girlfriends claimed she felt like she has aged almost 10 years in 2 months! She was especially concerned about her wrinkles and overall skin dullness which prompted me to encourage her to come and see me for a microneedling treatment.  But exactly what is Microneedling and what can it do to help our appearance?

After the age of 30, collagen production decreases by approximately 5% each year. Microneedling, also known as Collagen Induction Therapy, is an FDA cleared medical device targeting skin texture and it is considered to be a form of tissue remodeling.  Fine lines, wrinkles, acne scarring, stretch marks and skin laxity can all be treated with microneedling. One microneedling treatment creates thousands of micro channels encouraging our cells to produce more collagen and elastin.  In addition, as our skin heals, new cells are created and duplicated creating a change at the cellular structure that combats the visual signs of aging.  Recall how your body heals a scraped knee, once the wound is healed it leaves behind new smoother tighter skin. Ideally, a series of three treatments are done set 30 days apart to allow for maximum cell regeneration.  More treatments may be recommended depending on your individual skin concerns.

Microneedling is appropriate for nearly all skin types. Patients should have a comprehensive individualized consultation to discuss concerns and expectations prior to any microneedling treatment.

Upon arrival at our facility, expect your skin to be cleansed and a topical anesthetic to be placed for approximately\n20-30 minutes prior to the actual treatment. Once appropriately numb, your provider will topically apply a hyaluronic acid-based product to encourage gliding of the device and to maximize overall hydration of your skin.

At Mirabelle, we use the 1st FDA cleared microneedling device, Skin Pen®, paired with its very own product regimen as well as our medical grade Hyaluronic Acid Gel, “MiraBelle Saving Face”.  You can also elect to upgrade to our “Mirabelle P R P Facial” which also incorporate using your plasma as the topical serum hence serving as a personalized growth factors to accelerate healing, reduce inflammation and redness. Treatment lasts approximately 30 minutes and patients should expect to leave with a slightly inflamed skin while being comfortable. The aftercare is simple and straightforward to allow for complete wound healing. Your skin should remain pink for 3 to 5 days, feel dry and tight similar to what you experience when you a have sunburn.

Microneedling is a fantastic stand-alone treatment that can be combined with other treatments such as dermaplaning, Hydrafacial MD, and LED Light Therapy to address multiple skin concerns. It provides amazing long lasting result and will certainly be a subject of discussion at your next “Zoom Happy Hour!
